Welsh Place names

Just found this rather dry sounding report on twitter

it is actually a fascinating insight to the welsh language and place names – and if you are exploring #Wales by bike – its essential reading. Get out your #OSmap and find out what that name on the map actually means. The word cloud below shows all the different word in the Welsh language for slopes, hills and mountains – definitely rivalling the Inuit for their legendary 50 words to describe snow.

On all our Welsh Cycling holidays, we provide you with an OS map and a brief guide to welsh place names – it helps you understand the terrain you are cycling through – you may not be able to pronounce it – but you can understand it!
